Cello Masterclass with Michal Kaňka

On March 10-12, 2025, the Prague House hosted a cello Masterclass. 12 students of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels worked for three days under the guidance of the leading Czech cellist and HAMU professor Michal Kaňka to improve their repertoire. As part of a pedagogical exchange, Belgian cellist and teacher Olsi Leka will visit the Prague HAMU next week.

Born in Prague in 1960, Michal Kaňka completed his studies there under the guidance of esteemed professors. He later refined his artistry in Los Angeles with André Navarra, Maurice Gendron, and Paul Tortelier. From 1980 onwards, he won numerous prestigious awards and was invited to perform with leading international orchestras. A devoted chamber musician, he has been a member of the renowned Pražák Quartet and Beethoven String Trio since 1986, recording extensively and performing worldwide. Today, he teaches in his hometown and serves on the artistic board of the highly esteemed Prague Spring Festival.
