GUF Workshop EGNOS & Civil Aviation

Workshop GUF (Galileo User Forum) „EGNOS & Civil Aviation“

International GUF Workshop (Galileo User Forum – Czech initiative) dedicated to the use of GNSS services in aviation

½ day workshop and evening cocktail

Date: 3rd of December 2009 at 1:30 p.m.
Venue: Delegation of Prague to the EU in Brussels

Official conference language: English

Objectives of the Workshop:

The Czech Republic is aware of the immense importance of up-to-date technologies as well as their contribution to the progress whether in the technological or social fields. Consequently, Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) rightly holds a foremost position among such up-to-date technologies through its constantly increasing potential. However, in order of achieving a comprehensive and coordinated GNSS it is necessary to take account of requirements and needs of all stakeholders. As regards the exploitation of such systems, the transport sector plays an irreplaceable main role, with the aviation holding a unique position due to its high level of safety and reliability. The EGNOS system and subsequently the Galileo are showing a large potential in the aviation field not only for direct users but also for all components (ground segment, control segment, end users) to be involved in the process of using applications and services provided by such systems at present as well as in the future. The EGNOS system and later also the Galileo may be, for example, used only as reserve systems at the beginning but later on they may find themselves in a position of gradually replacing the existing systems because their contribution to the aviation (whether from the point of lower establishment, operating as well as technological and financial demands) will be growing permanently.  That’s why the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic, in cooperation with the Capital City of Prague and the Delegation of Prague to the EU , is holding an international workshop Galileo User Forum (GUF) as a Czech initiative. The workshop objective is to lay down common standpoints and recommendations for further development of satellite (navigation) systems in the air transport field.

The next workshop, dedicated to the use of GNSS services in aviation, will be held in Prague House, Avenue Palmerston 16, 1000 Brussels, on 3rd December 2009. The goal of this workshop is to collect from international audience new proposals for more extensive use of GNSS applications in aviation. The Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic and the Capital City of Prague would like to use this opportunity to invite you to this workshop.

Workshop is free of charge and all participants will be warmly welcomed on following evening cocktail. It is necessary to fill up a registration form and send it either via email or fax on contacts below:
